I am really wishing that I could play The Sneaky Snacky Squirrel with my clients… in person! This is one of my favorite games to play and is perfect for fall themed therapy sessions.
This is a pretty simple game to play yet it covers quite a range of skills. All you need to do is spin the spinner and pick up the matching acorn with your Squirrel Squeezer, placing it in your log. The first to collect 5 acorns wins! You might notice that the spinner has a few different pictures on it.
The Sneaky Squirrel allows you to steal any color acorn you need for your log from another player!
The Sad Squirrel means you skip your turn.
The Squirrel Storm means a storm blew all of your acorns back into the tree! You put all of your acorns back and skip your turn.
One of my kiddos had a really really hard time with the squirrel storm and would get VERY upset anytime she landed on this one. Her mom had a great idea to make it not so sad and I still use this tip to this day. Anytime she would land on the squirrel storm we would actually pretend to blow the acorns back into the box. We got very animated and made into something goofy rather than something upsetting.
I typically use this game to break up whatever activity I am working on in my therapy session, however, you can use it for specific goals like producing /s/ sounds in words, following directions, combining words into phrases, etc.
